Children wander the aisles in amazement and wonder. Whether it’s building with Lego, being a superhero, dressing up a Barbie, or getting new art supplies, Toys R Us has helped us play and learn for decades. You could walk for miles in their stores, and spend hours playing, and even reminiscing if you’re not so little anymore. In the age of everything internet, growing technology, and one stop and click shopping, Toys R Us should be invincible, while other businesses continue to fold, become obsolete, and not needed anymore. The toy giant is different and important, and a part of our history is at stake, so why are they going under?
I’ve been reading what I could find, and it seems like they got caught in a bad debt from 2005, right before the market crashed. It looks like the debt inflated, because they couldn’t refinance, pretty much like what happened to many during the housing bubble. None of this would be happening, if not for that. Toys R Us, is not struggling otherwise, if you have a look at the numbers. They are still popular, people are still shopping there, and kids and parents love the store. This is what’s so sad about this situation. Toys R Us is doing well, but they can’t figure out how to restructure, to get out of this jam. Basically, they need to sell everything off now, to pay their creditors.
This is a huge loss. I love Toys R Us, and I’m not a kid anymore. I buy toys as gifts there, because I prefer to walk the aisles for ideas, to see the latest trends and new items, as well as find the timeless ones. This is why Toys R Us is so important. Kids and parents should get to physically see the items. We’re not talking about just toys here, we’re talking about educational and learning tools. Kids get a foundation from plenty of things in the store. It’s how I knew I loved architecture. I remember how much I loved the Better Homes Collection. I set up a whole house when I was a kid. Then, I picked out art supplies and drawing pads, and my parents were more than happy to get them for me. It was creative, and it kept me busy and out of trouble for hours. I also loved puzzles. We’d pick out ones with hundreds of pieces, that way the family could work on it together. Nowadays, there’s not enough families doing projects like this. My point, is I don’t want to buy toys online, like the many other things I do. I want to walk the aisles, enjoy seeing what’s new, what’s old, the coloring books, the dolls, the Play Doo, the puzzles, astronomy, math and other subject workbooks, crafting kits, and the many other ideas filled in the store. You can’t get that online. Toys R Us is an experience, more than just a store. We need a miracle.
